Hey! I'm Derek, a U2 Anatomy and Cell Biology student at McGill. Growing up, I was never one to know exactly what my passions were. Eventually, by some stroke of luck, I ended up working with children of all ages - both through aquatics and healthcare. I found my passion. Helping and supporting children is one of the greatest feelings in the world and Heart 4 Heart is an incredible organization that is doing just that. Working with a child at a time, our efforts will make differences in each child's life and we hope that you'll join us in doing so!

Hello! My name is Sean and I come from Ottawa, Ontario. I am currently on the road to obtaining my B. Sc. at McGill University with a major in Pharmacology and a minor in Social Studies of Medicine. Since a young age, I’ve wanted to help others. Whether it was the 6-year old me giving away free Pokemon cards at the daycare or the 18-year old me volunteering at local hospitals in Ottawa and Montreal, one thing is certain: “giving” is the gift that keeps on giving. A small sacrifice from you can go a long way to making someone else’s day! As such, I am excited to work with the Heart 4 Heart team - where we all share the goal of brightening up a child’s day, for the rest of their life.

My name is Colleen O’Meara and I’m from Washingtonville, New York. I’m currently in my sophomore year at Ithaca College studying Integrated Marketing Communications. I am pursuing a career in the digital advertising industry. I am the Social Media Chair for Heart 4 Heart with the mission to raise awareness about the organization on our campus. Hey! I’m Kess Ross, a senior at Tulane majoring in Neuroscience. Outside of school I love to keep myself busy with a number of different jobs, including acting, modeling, playing sports, and music. I was incredibly excited to be cast in a role for the show American Horror Story last semester, and have been working with a lot of different musicians this year. I joined Heart4Heart because I think it’s a great cause for an issue that doesn’t get the attention it deserves. I’m very excited to see the work we can get done this year.

Hi there, welcome to Heart 4 Heart. My name is Issa Ashqar and I am the VP Finance of the Montreal chapter. This means I am in charge of everything related to money (budgets, revenues & expenses.) After growing up in Amman, Jordan and living there for 18 years, I moved into Montreal where I am currently pursuing an accounting and finance degree at McGill University. My time with Heart 4 Heart so far has been very rewarding; I have been working with the best people out there on saving the lives of less fortunate children in other parts of the world. If I am not in class or studying, you can find me on the basketball court or in the weight room. In my free time, I also enjoy watching documentaries and spending time with friends. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would love to become a part of our lovely team. We are a growing team, always looking for people to help and have an impact.
“We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”
― Winston S. Churchill
Salutations to all,
I am pleased to introduce myself as one of the member of the Heart4Heart. My name is Bavi Ganesu and I am a second year student at the McGill University. If school did not gobble up my whole day, I spend time dancing, reading or even exploring the interesting neighborhoods of my city, by foot, bike or car. I was born and raised in Montreal, a place in which regardless of differences in languages, religions or nationalities, the shared love and true pride and great respect for the city is surely felt. Some of these values are present in our charity. This platform allows me to touch the hearts of the destitute children who are forgotten by the society, and bring awareness to others who also wish to make a change. I am conscious that one act of kindness at a time might not change the whole world, but in our case, it can truly change a child’s world.
Hey! My name is Syed Mahdee Haque, and I am currently studying Biology & Math at McGill University. I was born in New York but having been living in Montreal for the majority of my life, I pride myself in being a Canadian. In my free time I immerse myself in the beautiful world of European soccer. I’m extremely happy that I joined Heart 4 Heart, as their ideals, goals, and approach have been extremely inspiring. The team itself is filled with incredible people who really are giving their heart to shed a more positive light on the world. Personally I want to see Heart 4 Heart grow and help as many kids as we possibly can.
Hey! My name's Michele and I am currently pursuing a Major in Anatomy and Cell Biology with a Minor in International Development! I grew up in beautiful North Vancouver, BC but I have happily indulged myself in Montreal's vibrant culture and ever-engaging community for the past three years of my studies. Joining the Heart 4 Heart family here at McGill has been a truly rewarding experience. Our team's dedication towards the cause has generated such wonderful outcomes and happy beginnings for children we are lucky to help. On top of that, we simply have a great time doing what we do! Any contribution you make through donations or word of mouth brings us one step forward to making that a reality :)

This year I am the Volunteer Director at the Heart 4 Heart organization at Queen's University. I got involved with Heart 4 Heart because I believe that every child deserves to have access to medical care, regardless to where they are in the world. My aim is to spread awareness of congenital heart disease so that as many children as possible can receive the treatment they need.

Outside of school I love playing and watching sports with friends. I’ve been participating in community service for a few years, mostly through Orange County Special Olympics, and I think Heart4Heart is an incredible way to help those who need it most. I highly recommend joining this organization because there’s no feeling like changing a child’s life.

I’m planning on majoring in either Health or Psychology. I wanted to get involved with this charity because I enjoy helping others and making others feel happy. I am excited to see what the Queen’s Chapter will contribute to the Heart 4 Heart Charity as a whole.
Hey! My name is Cole Ashman and I’m in my fourth and last year at Tulane University in New Orleans, seeking a degree in chemical engineering. Being from New Orleans originally I have been raised around wonderful musical culture and I have developed a love for many different genres of music. I love to travel to new places, and one of my favorite destinations so far has been Greece since I love Mediterranean food. I joined Heart4Heart because I’m interested in making a positive, lasting impact on others. Congenital heart disease also runs in my family, and my mother received an emergency transplant when I was a child so the cause is very close to home.
Hi, my name is Max Bohm and I’m a sophomore at Tulane studying Biochemistry, with a minor in business. In my spare time I enjoy golfing, fishing, and playing hockey with friends. I joined Heart4Heart because it’s an organization that makes an easily observable impact on children’s lives, and because I feel like I can really make a difference. I’m looking forward to connecting with the project children, and seeing first hand the good I can do.
Why Hello there! My name is Vinamrta and I am an enthusiastic 2nd year University student who aspires to initiate a difference. I hope to pursue a career in medicine along with embedding myself as a prominent member of the community one day. I am a student who has created a path for myself to tread on through various Youth Committees such as Markham Getting Together, Turn the Page, York Outreach Youth, and The Change for Autism. In addition to that, I am a member of the “Because I am a Girl” campaign and recipient for the Future Aces Leadership Award. I strongly believe in the words of John Q. Adams; "if your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a true leader”, and hence, I stand here today proud; for being part of Heart 4 Heart not only makes me a leader, it brings me another step closer to my goal.
Hello everyone! My name is Emily Nham and I have had the honour to be the Co-Founder and President of Heart 4 Heart Queen’s University chapter over the past 4 years. I am in my final year of my undergraduate studies and couldn’t be more excited to finish as a Life Sciences major with a Bachelor’s of Science degree. Although I will no longer be the President of Heart 4 Heart this upcoming term, I am delighted to know that I have created the opportunity for other students to excel in a leadership role and to make a difference in the Queen’s and Kingston community. I am extremely proud of the Queen’s executive committee and the contributions they have made in order to ensure the success of the club and the charity as a whole. Without them, the Heart 4 Heart Queen’s chapter would not be where it is today. I can not wait to see the continued growth and success of this club in years to come as we continue to raise funds and awareness for children around the world with this crippling condition.
Hi! My name is Emily Dzongowski and I am in my fourth year of Life Sciences. I hope to pursue a career in pediatrics or neonatology in the future, making a children’s health initiative like Heart 4 Heart a perfect fit for me! When I’m not hitting the books, I like to spend time with friends, watch Netflix, or read. I also love to travel and studied abroad in Scotland last year. I have been the vice president of Heart 4 Heart since my very first year at Queen’s and I’m so proud of how far our club has come. We’ve gone few first years sitting around a residence common room to a fully-ratified club with an active volunteer base and helped so many children along the way - it has truly been amazing to be involved.
Hi, my name is Sam Middleton, and I’m a first year ArtSci student at Queen’s. I’m planning on doing a major in philosophy with a minor in psychology, before applying to law school. I’m from the west-end of Toronto, Ontario, where I played several sports, and enjoy cheering on the Leafs, Raptors, Jays, TFC, and Argos. My other interests include travel and working in developing countries, so next summer I’ll be interning in an aid capacity throughout Ghana, before setting off on a trip through Zambia, Namibia, Botswana, and South Africa. Here at Queen’s, I’m a member of 6 executive committees, and I’m passionate about making a difference by working through these organizations. This is my first year with Heart 4 Heart, but I’ve already been able to see how a dedicated group of individuals working as a team with singular focus and drive is able to create change and improve the lives of those affected by congenital heart disease. While fortunate enough to live in a nation where congenital heart disease is a far less prevalent issue than elsewhere, through Heart 4 Heart I’ve been able to see the impact that it can have on individuals and families alike, and it truly is an issue that deserves our attention and effort. Working with Heart 4 Heart, I know that we can make a real difference, and I look forward to being a part of this group’s continuing efforts to combat such an important issue.

Hi, my name is Allison Binnie and I’m from London Ontario. I’m currently a fourth year biology major at Queen’s University. Some of the activities I enjoy include playing volleyball, snowboarding, and wakeboarding. I usually spend my summers working at an optometry office, as I aspire to be an optometrist one day. This is my fourth year as the Vice President of Marketing for Heart 4 Heart organization at Queen’s university. Back in first year decided to get involved with this charity because I am passionate about the idea of delivering medical care to those with limited access to it. I’ve really enjoyed watching Queen’s Heart 4 Heart develop as a club and will be sad to leave at the end of the year!
Hello! My name is Amanda Lee and I am from Markham, Ontario. I am currently a fourth year Life Science major at Queen’s University. I like to gym, watch Netflix ( sometimes too much) and play the guitar during my spare time! This is my third year as a Volunteer Director with Heart 4 Heart and I am excited very for this upcoming year. My experience working with Heart 4 Heart has been nothing but amazing and impactful. I’ve always had a passion to help those in needs, and it’s rewarding to know that we are changing children’s lives, one surgery at a time. As this is my last year on this club, I am sad to leave, but very proud of how much this club has grown!
Hi! My name is Caroline Aitken. I currently study Mechatronics Systems Engineering at Western University, but I am originally from Hamilton, Ontario. With a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering - and possibly a Masters in Biomedical Engineering - I hope to imagine, design, and test equipment for those in medical need. Due to a heavy influence from my own family’s experiences with childhood illness, I can personally appreciate and understand the effects of what assistance from the government can do to assist a family in affording treatment for that disease. I am lucky that my family has been in a financial situation to cover the rest of the costs; however, this is often not the case. This is where foundations like Heart 4 Heart become incredibly important. The donations of generous people can literally save the lives of children who would otherwise never have a chance. I am excited to be a part of Heart 4 Heart London and have a positive impact on the lives of families in need.
Hey, my name is Steven Wu and I’m from Markham Ontario. I’m a fourth year History Major in the Concurrent Education program here at Queen’s! I’m a big fan of my cat (Chance), rapping, reading and all things outdoors. I’m hoping to travel to Korea and teach English after I graduate from Queen’s. This is my third year as the volunteer director and am excited to be a part of a selfless initiative and equally as selfless team. I initially got involved with Queen’s Heart 4 Heart because I wanted to be able to positively impact someone’s life who is otherwise unable to fund their medical expenses. My experience in the club has been nothing but eye-opening and the people that I’ve worked with made me realize that there are people out there that want to help.
Hello! My name is Madeline Robinson and I’m currently a second year Life Sciences major. I grew up in Norway and recently moved to Ontario from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Since coming to Queen’s University I have grown to love Kingston and the close-knit community of passionate and motivated students living here. When I’m not studying, I’m volunteering on campus, catching up with friends, or out on Lake Ontario with the rowing team. I am passionate about accessible and affordable healthcare and it is my dream to pursue a career in medicine after graduation. Through their work providing life-saving surgeries, Heart 4 Heart stood out to me as an organization that has incredible direct impact on children’s lives and their families. I look forward to working with this group of talented and driven individuals and seeing the difference our events and fundraisers will make for children suffering from congenital heart disease.
Hi, my name is Boris Kan and I am currently a 2nd year Life Science major at Queen’s University. I plan on pursuing a career in paediatrics or pharmacy because I want to have an impact on other people’s lives one day. Some of my most memorable experiences was working as a camp counselor and volunteering at Toronto East General Hospital. I am from Richmond Hill, Ontario and some of my hobbies are playing basketball, watching TV shows (Friends), and playing cover songs on the piano. This is my second year with Heart 4 Heart and I have seen some amazing things happen that have really helped this club thrive in reaching their goals. That feeling when we reached enough funds to pay for a child’s heart surgery is truly amazing. I believe that Heart 4 Heart will continue to make a major impact on the lives of children in developing countries and I am excited to be a part of the next chapters that are ahead of us.
Hey there! I am Mohamed Elazabawy. I am currently enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering program at Western University, in London, Ontario. I am Egyptian, was born and spent most of my time in Saudi Arabia, and moved to Canada in 2012. Being exposed to many different cultures over the years, I have developed an interest in always learning about new ones. I have got three main passions: sports (soccer!), being involved, and aviation. Up until 2011, when my niece was born, I was the youngest in the family, and I never really had to deal with children. However, throughout the past three years, my niece and I spent a lot of time together, playing games, telling each other about our day, learning all the things that happen in 3 year old’s day, and just having a lot of fun. I realized that everything possible should be done to allow children to live through these kinds of moments with their family. For this reason, when I had the chance to join Heart 4 Heart, I did not hesitate to do so.
Hey there! My name is Shoaeb Salaria and I am ecstatic to be part of a heart-warming club like this! I am originally from Mississauga, Ontario and I am currently studying engineering at the University of Western Ontario. I also plan doing a dual degree at the Richard Ivey business school here at Western. Some of my hobbies include wrestling, cross country, soccer, and my ultimate favourite, Ice hockey! I am also a member of ISV volunteers, and will be working as a volunteer in New Zealand to protect and rehabilitate some of the most beautiful landscapes on Earth, conserve rare and endangered species by providing food, shelter, and enhancing natural habitats! Speaking of travelling, I am an avid traveller. I enjoy exploring different regions of the world and comparing the culture and everything else to where I live. These places include, South Africa, UK, California, and many more! Furthermore, have a keen interest in human biology. I hope to be a Biomedical Engineer one day! I feel this club will provide a good insight into applications of this field, which is a good reason for why I joined the team! I look forward to meeting like-minded people that have the same goal of helping kids in need, and I would love nothing more than to help out kids with this unfortunate birth defect while being surrounded by people with high enthusiasm and great positivity!
Hey! My name is Tanner Martin and I am currently enrolled in the Health Studies program at Western University. Born and raised in London, Ontario, I love my hockey, my Maple Leafs, skiing, and travelling. I’ve love working with children, whether through camp counselling, being a youth leader at my church, or just playing mini sticks with my little cousins. All children deserve a chance at a healthy life, and each one is unique and special in his/her own way. Heart 4 Heart is a tremendous charity that I’m honoured to take part in, and the students involved that I get to work with are next to none. This is a life changing charity that not only involves the hearts of children in need, but also the hearts of the people who give. Congenital heart disease is a very real and scary thing for many children, and Heart 4 Heart is working to change that.
Hey, I’m currently an engineering student at Western hoping to enter the Ivey School of business dual degree program. I was born in Calgary but have lived in London for my whole life. Along with Heart 4 Heart, I also work as a research assistant in a computer engineering lab and am helping to organize the Western Student Research Conference. Being a member of H4H allows me to help raise money to save the lives of many children in need
Hello! My name is Mingoo and I am in my 3rd year studying Molecular Genetics at the University of Alberta. I am originally from South Korea but came to Edmonton for post-secondary education. In the future, I wish to become a medical geneticist, who tries to find the genetic cause of rare genetic disorders. The main victims of genetic disorders are children, and this is how I got interested in issues involving around pediatric healthcare. Everyone deserves to be treated when hurt, regardless of their race, gender, or age. With the collective efforts of the Heart 4 Heart teams around the world, I wish to make a real difference in the lives of children with CHD around the world.

I’m a third year student married to the study of Physiology here at the UofA! When I’m not busy with school, you can find me playing badminton, munching on chocolate, or falling asleep! Hi, my name is Nancy You and I am from Halifax, Nova Scotia. I am currently a third-year life science student at Queen’s University. When I’m not in class or at the library, I enjoy re-watching episodes of The Office as well as running and having fun with my friends. This is my second year with Heart 4 Heart. Being born with congenital heart disease myself, Heart 4 Heart has personally been a rewarding experience for me. It is a club that has, time after time, made me realize how fortunate I am. In addition, it has provided me with an opportunity to partake in changing the lives of children all across the world that don’t have access to the appropriate medical care that they need.
Hi! My name is Carissa Fuerth, and I am currently in my fourth year studying Biology at the University of Windsor. In my free time you can find me playing sports (such as soccer or volleyball), working as a lifeguard for the City of Windsor, or travelling as much as possible. I am constantly travelling and love exploring different cultures and beautiful landscapes throughout the world. I am also very interested in human biology and healthcare, which has led me to hopefully becoming an occupational therapist in the future. I have joined Heart for Heart because I think it is an amazing charity that gives me an opportunity to directly make a difference in someone’s life. Seeing the children in need of medical treatment and the many success stories is encouraging and fuels my passion for volunteering. I am excited to work with other enthusiastic individuals as a member of the executive team!
Hey everyone! My name is Paul Singh and I’m currently in my third year studying Biology at the University of Windsor. Some of the things that I enjoy doing are: soccer, badminton and playing cards. When I visited India years ago, I was shocked to see so many unfortunate people who couldn’t pay for their medical treatments. From that point, I was driven to make a significant impact. I plan on pursuing dentistry and hopefully coming back to India and other countries in need of care. I’m excited to join Windsor’s first Heart 4 Heart team as an executive and bringing a change.
Hi! I am currently in my second year of my Bachelor of Sciences degree at the UofA. I joined the Heart 4 Heart club as in the future, I would like to pursue a career in the health industry as I am passionate about providing assistance to others who are less fortunate than I am. Through my past experience, helping those in deprived communities has allowed me to see that support is needed to bring about change as these are the countries whose government does not have the necessary resources to provide proper healthcare to those who need it. Thus, even providing the smallest contribution to this cause can make a difference in an individual's and their family's lives. A few of my hobbies include playing the piano and crocheting. During my spare time, I volunteer at the Stollery Children’s Hospital and the Misericordia Community Hospital, and work as a swimming instructor.
Hi! My name is Vishnu Rengan and I am currently in my fourth year studying Electrical Engineering at the University of Alberta. I was born in the UK to immigrant parents from India and grew up in Canada. Growing up, I often visited India, and seeing children unable to afford basic healthcare motivated me to join Heart 4 Heart University of Alberta.

This is my second year being involved with Heart 4 Heart at Queen’s and I am excited to be a part of the marketing team for the 2017-2018 school year, promoting our events and our overall cause. I became interested in joining Heart 4 Heart because of my passions for public health and advocating for children. Being able to help support children around the world who do not have convenient access to health care is very important to me and is something that I believe we need to raise more awareness about!
Hi, my name is Tina Ranjbar and I am from Toronto Ontario. I am currently a third year biology major at Queen’s University. This is my first year as the Volunteer Director for Heart 4 Heart and it already has been a very rewarding experience for me. A strong passion of mine is travelling to different areas of the world and experiencing different cultures. I love working with children, whether it be through babysitting or a camp counselling. Heart 4 Heart has interested and allowed me to bring my strong passion for volunteering to this role and to make a big impact by providing a child with a life changing surgery. I look forward to working with Heart 4 Heart and people who have the same goal of helping kids in need while being surrounded with lots of positivity.
Hi there! My name is Isaac Seifarth and I am finishing off my 3rd year in General Science at the University of Windsor. I plan on becoming a chiropractor and will pursue this next year at CMCC in Toronto! When away from school, you can find me playing intramural sports (i.e. European handball, Volleyball), baking at the Ronald McDonald House at Windsor Regional Hospital, working as a lifeguard or off hitting the ski slopes! Having worked as a lifeguard for the City of Windsor for the past 4 years, my aim to advocate for struggling kids has only grown. Even the little joys in life like swimming can be a powerful tool to uplift attitudes and make a real difference, even if just for a short time. These reasons contribute to why I believe being an executive member of Heart 4 Heart will be so rewarding, both for my team and the fortunate recipients! To be surrounded by a group so enthusiastic and goal oriented is invaluable and encourages me to be as strong of a H4H advocate as I can be!
Hey! My name is Amar Mainra and I am currently in my second year at McGill University studying Kinesiology. I grew up in North Vancouver after moving from Edmonton, Alberta, where I was born. I have always been an avid athlete, involved in basketball, hockey, soccer and golf from a very young age. Becoming apart of Heart 4 Heart was one of the best decisions I made so far at McGill. Not only have I be given the opportunity to contribute to such a great and successful cause, but also I have connected with a wonderful group of intelligent and very dedicated students. Heart 4 Heart has the opportunity to change and more importantly, save the lives of many children. Join us, help make this goal achievable and share this amazing experience!
Hello! My name is Maria Leis and I am in my fourth year studying Psychology at McGill University. I am originally from the small town of St. Marys in southwestern Ontario, so it is an amazing experience being in such a great city with so many opportunities. Some hobbies of mine include horseback riding, hockey, cross-country running, and being part of the Heart 4 Heart family! Being a member of such a fantastic team of people who are dedicated to giving back to those in need is a truly rewarding and motivating experience. For anyone who is looking to get involved, it is a wonderful opportunity to give back, get involved, meet amazing people, and most importantly, save children’s lives!
Hey everyone! My name is Carson Fang and I’m currently studying Immunology and Computer Science. I was born and raised in Scarborough, Ontario, but after three years at McGill, Montreal now holds a special place in my heart. During my spare time, I jam on the piano, playing anything from Beethoven to the Beatles. And as much as I love music, nothing compares to being a part of an organization that gives someone, especially a young child, more years to their life. Heart 4 Heart’s achievements are nothing short of amazing and what makes it even better is the collection of wonderful people whom I have the pleasure to work with.
Hi, my name is Stephanie Gravel and I’m a second year student at McGill studying Organizational Behavior and Marketing. I’m a local Montreal native and love discovering this vibrant city full of different cultures, languages and people from all over the world. Aside from that, I enjoy baking, movies, and all kinds of music. My passion in life is working with other people, hence my two majors. Moreover, I love knowing that I can make the world a better place even in a small way, which is what brought me to join this incredible charity. Not only am I very proud to be a member of the Heart4Heart organization, but I truly enjoy working with such dedicated and wonderful people and look forward to continuing my work with them.

Hey everyone, I’m Tala Zuraiqat and I’m in my final year of my Pharmacology major at McGill. I was born in the city of Amman in Jordan, and spent most my time there or in Oakville, Ontario before moving to the lovely (way too cold) city of Montreal. Aside from memorizing a plethora of drug names, I love baking, stuffing my face with popcorn, and colour coding everything in sight. I’m super excited to be working with Heart 4 Heart because I’ve seen the devastating reality of untreated congenital heart disease first hand, and can’t wait for the upcoming year making a difference by working with such a dedicated team!
Hi! My name is Jenny Wang and I am a third year student at McGill studying political science. As a native Montrealer, I love to stay busy with various activities in the city. Not going to lie, I love studying and learning about the things I am passionate about equally as much as I love spending time meeting new people. Being part of H4H was a commitment that I was glad to make as not only do I get to contribute to a good cause, but I also get to work with a team that genuinely cares and wants to make a difference. I am looking forward to a new semester with Heart4Heart!

Hey everyone! My name is Juliette Lequesne and I am a third year student at McGill pursuing a double major in Political Science and History. I was born in Paris, France but I moved to Prague, Czech Republic when I was a kid, then to London, UK, before going back to France and then moving to Montreal, Canada…you can say I am a globetrotter! Therefore I love to spend my time travelling and discovering new cultures! I started volunteering in high school, for a local charity that helps disadvantaged children with their homework. I knew that I wanted to continue this experience at university! Heart 4 heart is an excellent opportunity to give back and bring awareness. I am proud to be part of this organization, and to work with a dedicated team to improve children’s lives!
