Current Project: Gia
Sweet little Gia was born with a heart condition known as Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA). This heart defect happens when a blood vessel called the ductus arteriosus does not close as it should after birth. This causes problems with blood flow between the heart and lungs and can often be corrected through interventional catheterization. This heart defect can cause babies to breathe faster and harder than normal as their bodies try to keep up with the extra blood in their lung arteries. There is no pediatric cardiac care available on the island or even in the region where Gia lives with her family. They will need to travel to Manila for treatment. This will be the first time they have ever been off their island. Gia’s family is incredibly grateful for your support to help heal their precious daughter’s little heart.
Current Project: Carl
Carl lives on a small island in the southern region of The Philippines with his family. There is no pediatric cardiac care available in the region. After chronic illnesses, Carl’s parents took him to Cebu where a cardiologist diagnosed him with a heart condition. The cardiologist told them that they would need to travel to Manila for treatment and that his condition was complex and would require not only surgery but also a diagnostic catheterization. He further explained that the diagnostic catheterization procedure would not correct his heart defect but rather would allow for the surgeons to have more information on how to operate to heal his heart. Carl’s parents are overwhelmed with gratitude for your support in helping them to afford all that lies ahead to heal their son’s heart.
