Hey I’m Alex! I’m studying Finance and Neuroscience at Tulane, and when I heard about Heart4Heart I knew I had to start a chapter at Tulane. Congenital heart disease doesn’t get enough attention, and the preventative surgeries are actually relatively inexpensive. Heart4Heart does a great job of providing donors with a specific project that they can see their money going towards, which I think is an important, and yet generally lacking feature of a lot of charities. Also, since the surgeries aren’t the most expensive it’s really gratifying to be able to see the tangible impact we are having on these children’s lives. I’m very excited to spread awareness about CHD and fundraise for these surgeries.

Hi! My name is Samuel Lipman and I am a Senior studying Neuroscience and Political Science at Tulane University. I am from New York City and enjoy snowboarding and playing soccer and basketball. I was VP of communications for the Science and Engineering school and conducted 2 years of research in neurobiology with a focus in learning and memory. I was raised with a deep understanding that there are people less fortunate than me. That is why I am committed to helping raise money and perform community service for those who need help. I joined H4H because i have always had an interest in the healthcare field and believe that I could make a difference to help a child get CHD surgery. I am excited to be one of the leaders of my Chapter and am committed to making a difference to positively impact children around the world.

Hey, my name is Henry Adams and I’m currently in my fourth year at Tulane University studying Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. I grew up in Kansas City Missouri and have always loved art. For the most part I draw and make ceramic works, but I enjoy all art forms. I joined Heart4Heart because I wanted to give children in need a chance at all of the wonderful opportunities I had as a kid. Being able to say that I am responsible for helping to save a life means the world to me.

Hi my name is Liz Byrom. I'm a marketing and management major at Tulane University from Evanston, Illinois. In my spare time I like to listen to music, cook, hang out with friends, and watch the Chicago Blackhawks. I joined Heart 4 Heart because I knew it would be a rewarding experience. The opportunity to put a smile on a child's face was one I could not turn down. I'm honored to be able to raise awareness and plan events and that will have a profound impact on the lives of these children.

Hello! My name is Alyssa and I am currently a junior, studying finance and marketing at Tulane University. I grew up in Lexington, Massachusetts, but I love the vibrant nature of New Orleans. Aside from studying, I spend my time dancing, writing, and riding my bike. Having a background in tutoring grade-school students, and coaching track & field at a boys’ and girls’ club, I enjoy working with children and making them smile. As cliché as it sounds, by joining Heart 4 Heart, I can both support a truly inspiring cause and have the power to make a difference in people's lives.

Hey everybody! My name is Danny Stagliano and I am a sophomore marketing and digital media production major at Tulane University. I’ve always loved sports, but my favorites have always been soccer, football, and boxing. I was the president of my high school’s Red Cross Club in my hometown of Ithaca, New York, so I have always felt a connection to helping people in need. I joined H4H club because CHD surgery is so inexpensive, yet so impactful on a child’s life. I am ready to help H4H be proactive in 2016-17 and make an impact on the lives of young children.

Hey! I’m Tomas Salter-Cid and I am a junior at Tulane studying Neuroscience and Public Health. I’m from West Windsor, New Jersey, but also spent a lot of my life in San Diego. I love playing lacrosse and pick-up sports, and exploring the wonderful range of cuisine in New Orleans. I also love to fish and surfing with friends. I joined Heart 4 Heart because I was a part of Kids for Kids back home and I truly loved my experience working with children, and wanted to continue it in some way.

Hey, I’m Avery! I am a sophomore studying Environmental Biology at Tulane University. I grew up in White River Junction, Vermont where I loved to ski, play saxophone, and play soccer. A big part of the reason why I joined Heart4Heart was the knowledge that we as an organization could provide genuine help for children who truly need it. The surgeries that we provide to children with CHD have a huge impact on their lives and that is something I think is really special.

Hi, my name is Adam and I am a pre-med student studying psychology at Tulane University. I was born and raised in New York City and have always enjoyed playing recreational sports, such as intramural basketball and football with my friends, and working in labs around campus. Heart 4 Heart called out to me as an organization that I truly wanted to be part of. To be part of an organization that shows countless positive results for children in need is an honor. Hey! My name is Matt McKeever and I am a Senior at Tulane University studying Finance. I was born and raised in Greenwich, Connecticut and have always had a love for tennis, snowboarding and chorus. Hi! I’m Adam, a senior here at Tulane studying Biomedical Engineering. I’m from Los Angeles, California where i grew up playing tennis, reading, swimming and generally trying to get the most out of my day. Heart4Heart gives kids the chance to do the same. I hope to use my degree to help people by working on prosthetics, so when I heard of Heart4Heart and how easy it could be for me to trade some of my time for the chance to help save a child’s life, I had to do my part.

Current Project: Ashnea
Sweet three-year-old Ashnea lives in Cebu, The Philippines, with her parents and her older sister. Her father works hard as a maintenance worker to support his family and her mother stays home to care for her and her sister. Ashnea is tiny for her age and has struggled to meet her age-appropriate milestones and has been ill frequently during her short life. She was recently diagnosed with a heart defect known as Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) and her parents have been advised to have her heart defect corrected as soon as possible with an interventional catheterization procedure. The family is very concerned since they have difficulty providing the basic necessities for their family and have no idea how to raise the needed funding to have little Ashnea’s heart healed. They are so grateful for your help in raising the necessary funds so Ashnea can grow up to be healthy and strong and play with her sister and friends.
Current Project: Mark
Even though he suffers from a heart condition known as Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), Mark is a happy little boy who lives in Cebu City, The Philippines. He lives with his father and his girlfriend in a one-room structure. His father earns about $6 a day as a driver. Although he works hard, providing even the basic necessities for his family is difficult. Mark is in kindergarten and enjoys school but often cannot keep up with friends because he tires easily. He is an active little boy who looks forward to having his heart healed so that he can run and play with his friends without being out of breath and having to sit down. Thank you so much for your efforts to help heal Mark’s little heart and provide him hope for a healthy future.
Current Project: Andrea
Three-year-old Andrea has struggled since she was 8 months old when she started to have difficulty breathing, a persistent cough and several bouts of pneumonia. Andrea lives with her family on an island in the Southern Philippines where there is limited medical care. Her parents were advised by doctors at their local clinic to travel to Cebu to have Andrea seen for more specialized diagnosis and treatment. They raised funds from friends and neighbors to pay for tickets to take Andrea to Cebu by boat. The pediatric cardiologist in Cebu told them that their daughter has a heart defect known as a large Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) and that she would need to have an interventional catheterization procedure as soon as possible to heal her little heart. The cost of the procedure is far beyond their means. They are so very grateful for your help in raising funds to have their daughter’s heart healed and look forward to seeing her healthy and happy.
Current Project: Hera
Baby Hera was born with a large hole in her heart between the bottom two chambers. This heart defect is known as a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) and requires open heart surgery as soon as possible. The surgical team has requested a diagnostic catheterization prior to surgery which will provide them clear images of the heart, allowing them to create a surgical strategy for the best possible outcome. Baby Hera is an only child. However, her parents do not have the means for this medical procedure and greatly appreciate your help in raising the necessary funding. Hera’s father works as a production planner and earns only $13 per day. Her mother stays home to care for her. Therefore, they struggle financially to cover the many medical costs and transportation for their daughter’s needs.
Current Project: Mikael
Mikael lives with his parents and his older sister on an island in the southern region of The Philippines. Mikael suffers from a complex heart condition known as Tetralogy of Fallot. He began to show serious symptoms a year ago when he was just two years old. That is when his parents noticed that his energy level dropped dramatically. They also noticed that his skin tone had changed and his lips and fingertips looked more bluish than pink. When he would cry, he would turn very blue. Sometimes his oxygen saturation would be so low that they would have to take him for oxygen support. Mikael’s condition is serious and he needs to be operated as soon as possible. The surgical team has requested a diagnostic catheterization procedure for images of Mikael’s heart that will assist them in creating the best possible operative strategy. Mikael’s family is grateful for your support in funding this important step in healing his little heart.
Current Project: Zachary
Zachary lives with his young mother and her boyfriend on an island in the southern region of The Philippines. His mother is unemployed and takes care of him. They rely on the support of her boyfriend, who works at a water refilling station and earns $5 per day. There are days when they do not have enough food for the family, so they borrow food from other families nearby. They live in a one-room structure pieced together with plywood and galvanized iron, which offers minimal protection from weather conditions and lacks adequate space for a young child. Zachary is in need of an interventional catheterization procedure to correct his heart defect known as Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA). Obviously, this family cannot afford the highly specialized procedure and is immensely grateful for your assistance in providing funding to heal Zachary’s little heart.
Current Project: Aria
Aria lives with her parents and her older sister in the southern region of The Philippines. Aria was born with a complex heart condition known as Tetralogy of Fallot and has struggled with illness since birth. Just recently, her parents were advised to take their daughter to a major hospital in the capital of Manila, where she was diagnosed with the complex heart condition. Doctors have recommended open-heart surgery as soon as possible since Aria is cyanotic and struggling. Due to the complexity of the operation, they have requested a diagnostic catheterization to give them a clearer picture in creating their operative strategy. Even though Aria’s parents work as a school teacher and a seafarer, they also support and care for their own parents, who are seniors. With the financial responsibility of their own family and the extended family, they are in need of assistance to cover the cost of Aria’s medical bills and are grateful for your help.
Current Project: Samara
Sweet three-year-old Samara has been suffering from congenital heart disease since birth and has had symptoms since she was just one month old. She has had recurring cough and cold symptoms since she was a month old. Samara lives with her parents on a small island in the southern region of The Philippines. Her parents arranged to take her to Cebu where more experienced doctors diagnosed her with a complex heart defect known as Tetralogy of Fallot and Pulmonary Stenosis. With multiple complex heart defects, it is important for the surgical team to have a more in-depth look into her heart to create the best possible operative strategy to heal Samara’s heart. This can be done with a diagnostic catheterization procedure. Samara’s parents are very young and struggle to survive and care for their daughter. Your help in funding this important diagnostic procedure is greatly appreciated and will give Samara the best chance for a positive surgical outcome.
