Hey I’m Alex! I’m studying Finance and Neuroscience at Tulane, and when I heard about Heart4Heart I knew I had to start a chapter at Tulane. Congenital heart disease doesn’t get enough attention, and the preventative surgeries are actually relatively inexpensive. Heart4Heart does a great job of providing donors with a specific project that they can see their money going towards, which I think is an important, and yet generally lacking feature of a lot of charities. Also, since the surgeries aren’t the most expensive it’s really gratifying to be able to see the tangible impact we are having on these children’s lives. I’m very excited to spread awareness about CHD and fundraise for these surgeries.

Hi! My name is Samuel Lipman and I am a Senior studying Neuroscience and Political Science at Tulane University. I am from New York City and enjoy snowboarding and playing soccer and basketball. I was VP of communications for the Science and Engineering school and conducted 2 years of research in neurobiology with a focus in learning and memory. I was raised with a deep understanding that there are people less fortunate than me. That is why I am committed to helping raise money and perform community service for those who need help. I joined H4H because i have always had an interest in the healthcare field and believe that I could make a difference to help a child get CHD surgery. For the most part I draw and make ceramic works, but I enjoy all art forms. I’ve always loved sports, but my favorites have always been soccer, football, and boxing. I was the president of my high school’s Red Cross Club in my hometown of Ithaca, New York, so I have always felt a connection to helping people in need. I joined H4H club because CHD surgery is so inexpensive, yet so impactful on a child’s life. I am ready to help H4H be proactive in 2016-17 and make an impact on the lives of young children.

Hi there, welcome to Heart 4 Heart. My name is Issa Ashqar and I am the VP Finance of the Montreal chapter. This means I am in charge of everything related to money (budgets, revenues & expenses.) After growing up in Amman, Jordan and living there for 18 years, I moved into Montreal where I am currently pursuing an accounting and finance degree at McGill University. My time with Heart 4 Heart so far has been very rewarding; I have been working with the best people out there on saving the lives of less fortunate children in other parts of the world. If I am not in class or studying, you can find me on the basketball court or in the weight room. In my free time, I also enjoy watching documentaries and spending time with friends. If school did not gobble up my whole day, I spend time dancing, reading or even exploring the interesting neighborhoods of my city, by foot, bike or car. I was born and raised in Montreal, a place in which regardless of differences in languages, religions or nationalities, the shared love and true pride and great respect for the city is surely felt. Some of these values are present in our charity. This platform allows me to touch the hearts of the destitute children who are forgotten by the society, and bring awareness to others who also wish to make a change. Being from New Orleans originally I have been raised around wonderful musical culture and I have developed a love for many different genres of music. Although I will no longer be the President of Heart 4 Heart this upcoming term, I am delighted to know that I have created the opportunity for other students to excel in a leadership role and to make a difference in the Queen’s and Kingston community. I am extremely proud of the Queen’s executive committee and the contributions they have made in order to ensure the success of the club and the charity as a whole. Without them, the Heart 4 Heart Queen’s chapter would not be where it is today. I’m from the west-end of Toronto, Ontario, where I played several sports, and enjoy cheering on the Leafs, Raptors, Jays, TFC, and Argos. My other interests include travel and working in developing countries, so next summer I’ll be interning in an aid capacity throughout Ghana, before setting off on a trip through Zambia, Namibia, Botswana, and South Africa. Here at Queen’s, I’m a member of 6 executive committees, and I’m passionate about making a difference by working through these organizations. This is my first year with Heart 4 Heart, but I’ve already been able to see how a dedicated group of individuals working as a team with singular focus and drive is able to create change and improve the lives of those affected by congenital heart disease. While fortunate enough to live in a nation where congenital heart disease is a far less prevalent issue than elsewhere, through Heart 4 Heart I’ve been able to see the impact that it can have on individuals and families alike, and it truly is an issue that deserves our attention and effort. Working with Heart 4 Heart, I know that we can make a real difference, and I look forward to being a part of this group’s continuing efforts to combat such an important issue.

Some of the activities I enjoy include playing volleyball, snowboarding, and wakeboarding. I usually spend my summers working at an optometry office, as I aspire to be an optometrist one day. This is my fourth year as the Vice President of Marketing for Heart 4 Heart organization at Queen’s university. Back in first year decided to get involved with this charity because I am passionate about the idea of delivering medical care to those with limited access to it. I’ve really enjoyed watching Queen’s Heart 4 Heart develop as a club and will be sad to leave at the end of the year!

With a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering - and possibly a Masters in Biomedical Engineering - I hope to imagine, design, and test equipment for those in medical need. Due to a heavy influence from my own family’s experiences with childhood illness, I can personally appreciate and understand the effects of what assistance from the government can do to assist a family in affording treatment for that disease. I am lucky that my family has been in a financial situation to cover the rest of the costs; however, this is often not the case. This is where foundations like Heart 4 Heart become incredibly important. The donations of generous people can literally save the lives of children who would otherwise never have a chance. I am excited to be a part of Heart 4 Heart London and have a positive impact on the lives of families in need.
Hey, my name is Steven Wu and I’m from Markham Ontario. I’m a fourth year History Major in the Concurrent Education program here at Queen’s! Some of my most memorable experiences was working as a camp counselor and volunteering at Toronto East General Hospital. Hey there! I am Mohamed Elazabawy. I am currently enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering program at Western University, in London, Ontario. I am Egyptian, was born and spent most of my time in Saudi Arabia, and moved to Canada in 2012. Being exposed to many different cultures over the years, I have developed an interest in always learning about new ones. I have got three main passions: sports (soccer!), being involved, and aviation. Up until 2011, when my niece was born, I was the youngest in the family, and I never really had to deal with children. However, throughout the past three years, my niece and I spent a lot of time together, playing games, telling each other about our day, learning all the things that happen in 3 year old’s day, and just having a lot of fun. I realized that everything possible should be done to allow children to live through these kinds of moments with their family. For this reason, when I had the chance to join Heart 4 Heart, I did not hesitate to do so.
Hey there! My name is Shoaeb Salaria and I am ecstatic to be part of a heart-warming club like this! I am originally from Mississauga, Ontario and I am currently studying engineering at the University of Western Ontario. I also plan doing a dual degree at the Richard Ivey business school here at Western. Some of my hobbies include wrestling, cross country, soccer, and my ultimate favourite, Ice hockey! I am also a member of ISV volunteers, and will be working as a volunteer in New Zealand to protect and rehabilitate some of the most beautiful landscapes on Earth, conserve rare and endangered species by providing food, shelter, and enhancing natural habitats! Speaking of travelling, I am an avid traveller. I enjoy exploring different regions of the world and comparing the culture and everything else to where I live. These places include, South Africa, UK, California, and many more! Furthermore, have a keen interest in human biology. I hope to be a Biomedical Engineer one day! I feel this club will provide a good insight into applications of this field, which is a good reason for why I joined the team! Hi I’m Vanessa O’Connor. Now with only two years left in my college career, it is unbelievable how fast time flies and where life has taken me. Coming back from a semester abroad in London, I have been eager to rejoin Heart4Heart, which raises money and brings awareness, yet to provide surgery to kids with congenital heart disease. Another non-profit I am a part of is She’s the First, which fundraises and brings awareness about girl’s education in impoverished countries. Another organization I have been a part of for a while is The Studio is yet another on-campus activity that I have worked for since my freshman year and this involvement lets students produce, edit, and market their own Hollywood films. This semester I also will be teaching media literacy to High School students and older adults through Media Club, while also balancing being a member of a few professional organizations, cooking with the culinary club, or explore everything Ithaca has to offer!

Hi, my name is Keziah Magor. This is my third year working with Heart 4 Heart, and I’m in my fourth year of studying Kinesiology at Queen’s University. I’m originally from Vancouver Island, B.C., and even though I miss the oceans and mountains, I’ve fallen in love with the culture and spirit of Queen’s and am proud to call it my new home. When I’m not hitting the gym or the books, I love advocating for marine life conservation, working as an Athletics and Rec Home Events staff member, and volunteering with special needs populations. In addition to my studies, I am an intern in the Strength and Conditioning Mini-Stream within the School of Health Studies and Kinesiology, which essentially means that I’m responsible for the planification and execution of a variety of Varsity sports teams lifting sessions. I joined Heart 4 Heart because helping children with congenital heart problems seemed like a no-brainer to me, and I have a huge heart for global equality regarding access to health care; everyone deserves appropriate and efficient treatment, especially these kids!

Heart 4 Heart has been a rewarding experience for me to help children with congenital heart disease. My interest in public health work has led me to Heart 4 Heart and is a great way for me to get involved in a global cause for health care.

Hello, my name is Mark Szendrey and I am from Whitby, Ontario. I am a 4th year life science student at Queen’s University specializing in cardiorespiratory stream. After I finish my bachelor’s degree I hope to go into Medicine or further my education in a master’s degree. Heart 4 Heart stood out to me as an organization I would be passionate about as I myself was born with congenital heart disease. The Heart4Heart team here at Queen’s University is extremely hard working and I am very proud of what we as a team has accomplished. Hi! My name is Eshwari Nanjappan and I am from Pickering, Ontario. Currently, I’m studying Life Sciences, and hope to pursue dentistry in the future. Apart from my interest in science, I enjoy drawing, baking, catching up with TV shows, and hanging out with my friends. Last year, I took a course about Global Health, and realized that I have a strong interest in advocating for health issues. I knew that I wanted to be more involved with health care at a community/global level, but I didn’t exactly know where to start. When I found out about Heart 4 Heart, I knew it was the perfect chance to pursue this interest and help advocate for children suffering from Congenital Heart Disease. I’m excited to join my fellow team members, in coming up with creative ways to fundraise for children requiring heart surgery. These surgeries are life-changing, and it’s incredible to be part of a team that strives to save lives. Heart 4 Heart is a one-of-a-kind council at Queen’s University, and I’m extremely happy to be part of such a passionate and enthusiastic team!

Hi, my name is Darcie Wilson and I am a 3rd year Life Student here at Queen's. I grew up in beautiful Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and am happy to call Queen's my home for the next few years. When my nose isn't in the books, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, watching old movies and playing basketball. Having worked with charitable organizations before, I can attest to the proud feeling in knowing that your own acts and efforts of kindness and benevolence have brought a service and a smile to a child and family in need. After experiencing the generosity and worthy mission of Heart 4 Heart as a volunteer in my first year, I am so happy to be able to continue working with such a great team to advocate for equal health care in less developed nations as an executive team member this year.

Hello! My name is Madeline and this is my third year working with Heart 4 Heart. I am currently a fourth-year student at Queen’s University studying Life Sciences with a specialization in microbiology. Although I am originally from Winnipeg, I have grown to call Kingston home and couldn’t imagine attending another university. When not in the lab or library, I enjoy hanging out with friends, rowing, or reading with a cup of good coffee in-hand. I hope to continue my studies with a Master’s in Neuroimmunology next year and hope to attend medical school in the future. I am passionate about health care; I strongly believe in accessible medical care for all so Heart 4 Heart and its important work seemed like a great fit. I couldn’t be happier with what the Queen’s Chapter has done so far and I can’t wait to see what we accomplish this year!

Hi, my name is Blair McCullough and I am a 3rd year Biochemistry student here at Queen’s. I call Ottawa home, but really the Kingston community shares the same love I have for Ottawa. You can typically find me at my desk memorizing the amino acids, or out at the gym getting my daily dose of exercise. When I think of children with congenital heart disease and how some of them aren’t fortunate enough to fund their surgery, my heart immediately sinks. I am passionate about equality when it comes to health care and medication therefore I believe every child should have the chance for a proper surgery to fix the heart defect. The topic of heart abnormalities hits close to home as I grew up with a sister who has a heart abnormality due to a genetic mutation she was born with. I would love nothing more than to help these kids during their journey with congenital heart disease. I am extremely excited to be working with this group of people this year and look forward to my first year with H4H. I believe it is a great way for me to get more involved with my peers and with health care to prepare me for a profession in pharmacy.

Being in life sciences allows me to explore various subjects such as Anatomy, Organic Chemistry, and Physiology. In the future, I wish to continue to pursue my passion for medicine and science by attending Medical School. My interest in the sciences and my love for helping others has led me to pursue a career in the medical field, and it has led me to join the Heart 4 Heart community. Heart 4 Heart shares my values when it comes to helping those in need through health care and that is why I am fortunate enough to be one of the two Conference Coordinators this year. Hi! My name is Jade Tang and I am from Ajax, Ontario. I am currently in my 2nd year of Commerce and hope to pursue a career in either Accounting or Consulting. During my free time, you’ll either catch me binge watching The Office, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, or cheering on the Leafs. Aside from shows, I’m also a music fanatic whether it is playing the piano or listening to throwbacks. I stumbled upon Heart 4 Heart through a Facebook post and thought it was an interesting organization to join as I’ve had minimal experience with charity work. Over the years, I’ve developed a passion for volunteering and giving back to the community and thought this would be a great opportunity to not only raise money, but also raise awareness for children who were born with Congenital Heart Disease. Personally, I didn’t know about CHD until I did some research on the H4H charity, and because of this, I decided to join this club so that others who are not in the science or health field would be more aware of this birth defect. I’m looking forward to being on this team and working with everyone in the Queen’s Chapters!

Hello! My name is Morgan Stedman and I am from Ottawa, Ontario. I am in my second year at Dalhousie currently in Arts with a minor in law. I love performance arts and have always thrived in front of an audience, from theatre stages to playing musical performances. I recently volunteered in Ghana working with HIV/AIDS education with an NGO called the Sankofa Centre, which opened my eyes in so many ways. I have always been drawn to helping people in any way that I can and am so excited to part of an organization that embraces the same values.

Hey! My name is Anastasija Jemcov, Ana for short. I’m currently majoring in Psychology at Dalhousie University. I’ve lived in many places in my life, such as New Hampshire in the USA, Sheffield in England, Toronto in Canada, and of course, Halifax. I’m excited to be supporting and aiding this cause and cannot wait to see the numbers of children given a new opportunity keep rising higher. Hey! My name is Alex McCabe and I am in my 4th year of University at Dalhousie in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This is my first year getting involved with Heart4Heart and I am extremely excited! Along with attending university, I have a part-time job at Broadway Cheesecake, which I love. I enjoy playing sports, especially soccer with my intramural team at Dal, and I also try to practice photography in my spare time. When my cousin told me that she was trying to bring the Heart4Heart charity to Dalhousie, I quickly jumped on board. It is an amazing charity that helps to improve the lives of children who were born with heart disease and I would love nothing more than to lend a hand in raising awareness and donations for these children and their families. This is a quote that I try to remember every day – “The most beautiful people we have known are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known struggle, known loss, and have found their way out of the depths. These persons have an appreciation, a sensitivity, and an understanding of life that fills them with compassion, gentleness, and a deep loving concern. Beautiful people do not just happen.” Cheers.

Hello! My name is Sonya Rozycki. I am a fourth year student at Dalhousie University enrolled in a Bachelor of Commerce Program with a major in Finance. In addition to attending Dalhousie University, I am also the Chapter President of the Dalhousie Best Buddies Society; a non-for-profit organization that promotes inclusion for individuals with intellectual disabilities from an early age. I also enjoy playing basketball through Dalhousie intramurals and various summer leagues in Toronto, my home town. I have always loved getting involved with various charities that help better an individuals life. After hearing about what Heart4Heart does for children with heart disease, I immediately volunteered. I am more than excited to help increase awareness and fundraise for Heart4Heart Charity to ensure that these children with heart disease are given a chance to live a healthy and prosperous life.

Ben Abbott
Hey there, my name is Ben Abbott and I am a second year student at Dalhousie University, studying Urban Planning and Sustainability. I am originally from Toronto, Ontario spending my summer months at home working construction. One of my favorite things to do is snowboard, spending almost all my weekends in Collingwood, Ontario racing Boardercross throughout my high school career. I also like to travel. In grade 11, I travelled to Kenya on a service trip, where I partook in the construction a new class room at a local primary school, played with the kids during their classes, and brought fresh fruit and supplies to an orphanage full of kids in need. This was an experience that made me want to do more to help out kids struggling in challenging situation, such as those supported by Heart-4-Heart. I look forward to getting started and am excited to see what our contribution can do for the cause.

Hi there! My name is Ali Inayat and I am the President of the Heart 4 Heart Charity Toronto Chapter. I’m an undergraduate neuroscience student at the University of Toronto with the ambition of pursuing a career in the medical field. I enjoy taking part in various activities such as recreational aviation/flying, tennis, as well as spending time with friends and family. I am passionate about medical research and have been fortunate to work in areas including stroke, cancer, and leadership in medical education. Volunteering for the global community has always been a privilege which I intend to continue; MSF (Doctors Without Borders) and CPSSA (Canadian Pediatric Stroke Support Association) are organizations to name a few. Being grateful and honored, I always look forward to working with H4H’s team to bring awareness, and hope to continue in raising funds as well as awareness for children with congenital heart disease. Hey! I am a 2nd year student from Calgary, AB studying Neuroscience and at the University of Toronto. We are extremely excited to be bringing Heart 4 Heart at UofT because it’s a cause we all feel strongly towards. Hello I’m Anna! I’m currently 4th year student at University of Toronto studying Neuroscience. I like being involved in the community and trying out new things, especially if it is for a good cause. This is why Heart 4 Heart caught my attention. The fact that we are able to raise awareness about heart conditions and at the same time change kids’ lives makes it so much more special. Meeting amazing people along the way and being a part of fun events is just the cream on top. Speaking about meeting people - I have a passion for traveling. Each place you visit is a new adventure, with lots of new discoveries and memories. In my free time away from school and routine, I enjoy painting and exploring new places in seemingly familiar city I live in. My biggest dream is to become a doctor, but that work is currently still in progress.

I moved to Toronto when I was 12 years old and I’ve been there ever since. I am currently double majoring in Neuroscience and Psychology, with a hope of continuing my scientific path in the future. I try to spend a lot of my time helping out and volunteering. Ever since I became part of UofT, I started volunteering with organizations such as Doctors Without Borders and UNICEF, and I hope to continue supporting great organizations by joining Heart 4 Heart. Hey everyone! My name is Matthew Metcalfe. I am currently in my 3rd year at the University of Toronto studying Human Biology and Mental Health Studies. Providing healthcare to those who are unable to afford it has always been a passion of mine. I currently serve as a Co-President for the UTSC Division of the International Service Learning Health Education and Resource Team (ISL HEART) which works in affiliating with other Canadian Universities to provide continued health care to poor villages in the Dominican Republic. When I was informed of the great work that H4H was doing around the world I was thrilled to get involved. Hey I’m Alex! I’m studying Finance and Neuroscience at Tulane, and when I heard about Heart4Heart I knew I had to start a chapter at Tulane. Congenital heart disease doesn’t get enough attention, and the preventative surgeries are actually relatively inexpensive. Heart4Heart does a great job of providing donors with a specific project that they can see their money going towards, which I think is an important, and yet generally lacking feature of a lot of charities. Also, since the surgeries aren’t the most expensive it’s really gratifying to be able to see the tangible impact we are having on these children’s lives. I’m very excited to spread awareness about CHD and fundraise for these surgeries.

Hi! My name is Samuel Lipman and I am a Senior studying Neuroscience and Political Science at Tulane University. I am from New York City and enjoy snowboarding and playing soccer and basketball. I was VP of communications for the Science and Engineering school and conducted 2 years of research in neurobiology with a focus in learning and memory. I’ve always loved sports, but my favorites have always been soccer, football, and boxing. I joined H4H club because CHD surgery is so inexpensive, yet so impactful on a child’s life. I am ready to help H4H be proactive in 2016-17 and make an impact on the lives of young children.

My plan is to pursue a career in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology in order to support, help and better the lives of people suffering from congenital diseases especially since this is a type of illness that newborns are just born with. I joined Heart 4 Heart because it stands to empower children and their families who would otherwise not be able to afford such an extensive and expensive treatment. My major deals, with finding new ways to advance medical technology and medicine to make health care more accessible and affordable and I hope that through my work with heart4heart I will build up my experiences and see which areas of medicine require more attention so that I will be able to use my knowledge to fix, or make better those areas/loopholes to ensure that good healthcare is available for all children. Alongside Heart 4 Heart, I direct a rhythm and strength program to increase the physical literacy of special needs children as part of Taking Strides Calgary. I also manage a team of engineering students in designing an electric ride-on toy car, adapted for kids with disabilities through the Project90 club. In my spare time, I love doing hot yoga and sipping on coffee with friends. I am thrilled to be a part of a team dedicated to leading a community in raising awareness and funds for children’s lifesaving surgeries. My name is Isaiah Michel and I am a second year undergraduate student majoring in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Calgary. I am the co-founder and external communications VP for Heart 4 Heart UofC. Although I was raised in Black Diamond Alberta, I have recently moved to the big city of Calgary in order to gain the experience and freedom of living away from home, while also avoiding an unrealistic commute time to school. I am a proud member of the Formula 1 Schulich Racing Team and have recently helped start up a new technical team called The Schulich Rover Team, where we are aiming to build a to-scale mars rover in order to compete in the Canadian International challenge this upcoming August. While I do very much so enjoy being apart of these technical teams, I am also extremely passionate and excited about the mission we have set for ourselves on the Heart 4 Heart team. I am grateful to be apart of the Heart 4 Heart team, which is made up of minded students who have come together to help those in need. I know that life as a student can seem challenging at times, yes midterms suck, and yes, some finals truly do make us feel like our lives are ending. However, considering what children from all over the world are going through, shouldn’t we all be head over heels grateful for the opportunities we are afforded? By raising awareness of what these children in need of heart surgeries are going through, I hope to see the students at UofC rise to the occasion and accept the challenge of providing these kids with the healthcare they both need and deserve.

I am a proud member of the Schulich off road team and lead the business side of things for the Schulich rover robotics team. What Heart 4 Heart allows me to do is to make a much direct impact on the lives of people who are not as blessed with resources in their health care sector as we are here in Canada. Hi everyone. My name is Sandra Amin and I am currently in my first year of Bachelor of Science - Honors in Neuroscience. I grew up in Egypt and moved to Calgary about 8 years ago. While I was there, I watched so many living on the street with the concrete ground as their beds and garbage bags as pillows. They stood by train tracks and traffic lights, begging for any money to feed their children when the cars are stopped. I watched as those little kids grew up on the streets and many of them developing life-threatening conditions. They couldn’t afford to buy a couple bottles of water for their family, let alone try and pay medical bills. Ever since, I made it my mission to help these little kids in whatever way I could. When I learnt about Heart for Heart and their initiative, I didn’t hesitate to join. I am Co-Vice President Fundraising and I look forward to being part of a team with great initiatives.

Hi! My name is Emma and I’m so happy to be a part of Heart4Heart again this year. This year I will be joining as VP Communications. To give you a little bit more information about me, I’m a third year neuroscience student interested in medicine and computer science (in addition to human behaviour and cognition). Growing up I was a very active kid, spending years as a competitive gymnast but switched to other sports due to injuries. I joined Heart4Heart because I believe in the organization’s goals. I think that all kids should be able to grow up and play. Heart4Heart helps make this possible by funding surgeries for congenital heart disease. One summer, I was fortunate to be able to witness surgeries to fix congenital heart defects and the impact they have on the children who receive them. I truly believe that fundraising for these lifesaving surgeries is a valuable cause.

Hello, my name is Saif and I am a fourth year student in Translational and Molecular Medicine at the University of Ottawa. I’ve lived the first 14 years of my life in Amman, Jordan and I moved to Ottawa 7 years ago (still haven’t adapted to the cold). I have been passionate about the science behind the cardiovascular system ever since I first learned about it in Grade 6. I decided to pursue a co-op position at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute in Grade 10 to further explore my passion, and I was amazed by how complex our hearts are. I am also currently a research assistant in one of the labs there, investigating the molecular biology behind our hearts. However, I have quickly realized that behind such amazing science are people who are experiencing it. I find myself not only interested in the field itself, but also the people who are affected by it, hence why I joined Heart4Heart. Heart4Heart is my opportunity to help those who are less fortunate, those who suffer from CHD but are unable to receive the medical attention they deserve.
Helllooo! My name is George and I'm a fourth year student studying Biomedical Sciences at the University of Ottawa. Born and raised here in the nation's capital, I'm a fan of the cold weather and a solid game of hockey. I live and breathe fitness, as well as healthy living, and try to get outdoors as much as I can! I fell in love with this charity because every child deserves a shot at life, and it's so unfair that a treatable heart condition is often what takes that opportunity away. If all it takes is buying a brownie or playing a game of soccer to help fund these life-saving procedures, wouldn't you want to help? The kids impacted may never know who you are or where you're from, but sometimes it's the silent heroes that make the greatest impact :)

Hi! My name is Elizabeth and I am currently in my fourth year of Human Kinetics in the University of Ottawa. I have lived in Ottawa pretty much my whole life and unfortunately so, I have still not been able to adapt to the cold weather. My hobbies include, swimming, reading, playing piano and enjoying outdoor adventures! Volunteering and assisting in developing countries such as the Dominican Republic, I would come across many injured kids that have had to succumb to pain due to not being able to afford treatment and/or help. Still to this day I send money to the families that have welcomed me during my stay, and have successfully collected money via Go Fund Me donations to assist them financially. I believe a little goes a long way and I cannot wait to implement myself in this wonderful organization and assist those that are less fortunate.

I’m super excited to join the H4H Team this year as a volunteer coordinator alongside Dalia! Hey there! My name is Jamie Roeske and I am the co-founder and president of Heart 4 Heart UofC! This will be our second year as a chapter at the University of Calgary and my second year as president! I am entering the third year of my Bachelor of Science - Honors in Neuroscience degree and am currently in the process of applying to medical school for the first time! If im not holed up in my condo studying, I can usually be found volunteering in the Neonatal Follow-Up Clinic at the Alberta Children’s Hospital, conducting respiration-related research at the Hotchkiss Brain institute or recording audiobooks for a variety of genres. Being deeply passionate about pediatric healthcare, I decided to create Heart 4 Heart UofC to give both myself and the rest of the UofC student body the ability learn about the #1 birth defect in the world: congenital heart disease. Our first year as a club had a fantastic start but was unfortunately cut short due to COVID-19. We are ready to adapt to the challenges that we will face this coming year and continue to accelerate the Heart 4 Heart mission.
Hi everyone! My name is Mobina and I'm a third year Neuroscience student, minoring in Physics at the University of Calgary. During my childhood, my mother who was a teacher in a small town in my home country, Iran, always used to tell me stories about her students who had to work hard as a kid to financially support their families or children who were suffering from some disorders but their families were not able to support them financially. I could never understand why these angels, anywhere in the world, had to have this path in their lives but I always wanted to get involved and help them. Heart4Heart is one of the best places for this purpose. One of my biggest dreams is to figure out the intersection of space and time and its perception. In my spare time, I love reading poetries and playing the piano. This year, I'm proud to be the VP Events at H4H and I'm looking forward to contribute my energy for the mission of our team and help to rise funds and awareness for children's lifesaving surgeries.

Hello there! My name is Mariam Basheer, I am a second-year nursing student, and I am very excited to be part of the Heart4Heart team this year as VP communications! Being very passionate about pediatric health and advocating for equitable access to healthcare, joining Heart4Heart is the perfect opportunity for me to contribute to this pressing issue. In Canada, we are very fortunate and privileged to have free high-quality universal healthcare. Unfortunately, this is not the case in most developing countries where they lack basic life necessities and access to affordable, acceptable quality healthcare. I am thrilled to join the Heart4Heart initiative to promote equitable access to healthcare, specifically urgent congenital heart surgeries for young children in developing countries. As VP communications, I am looking forward to merging my interest in social media and my passion for medicine and healthcare to raise awareness and advocate for these little children who deserve a chance to live a happy, healthy, and fulfilling life.
