Mahdee Haque Syed

Hi there, welcome to Heart 4 Heart. My name is Issa Ashqar and I am the VP Finance of the Montreal chapter. This means I am in charge of everything related to money (budgets, revenues & expenses.) After growing up in Amman, Jordan and living there for 18 years, I moved into Montreal where I am currently pursuing an accounting and finance degree at McGill University. My time with Heart 4 Heart so far has been very rewarding; I have been working with the best people out there on saving the lives of less fortunate children in other parts of the world. If I am not in class or studying, you can find me on the basketball court or in the weight room. In my free time, I also enjoy watching documentaries and spending time with friends. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would love to become a part of our lovely team. We are a growing team, always looking for people to help and have an impact.

MCGILL

Salutations to all,

I am pleased to introduce myself as one of the member of the Heart4Heart. My name is Bavi Ganesu and I am a second year student at the McGill University. If school did not gobble up my whole day, I spend time dancing, reading or even exploring the interesting neighborhoods of my city, by foot, bike or car. I was born and raised in Montreal, a place in which regardless of differences in languages, religions or nationalities, the shared love and true pride and great respect for the city is surely felt. Some of these values are present in our charity. This platform allows me to touch the hearts of the destitute children who are forgotten by the society, and bring awareness to others who also wish to make a change. I am conscious that one act of kindness at a time might not change the whole world, but in our case, it can truly change a child’s world.

Hey! My name is Syed Mahdee Haque, and I am currently studying Biology & Math at McGill University. I was born in New York but having been living in Montreal for the majority of my life, I pride myself in being a Canadian. In my free time I immerse myself in the beautiful world of European soccer. I’m extremely happy that I joined Heart 4 Heart, as their ideals, goals, and approach have been extremely inspiring. The team itself is filled with incredible people who really are giving their heart to shed a more positive light on the world. Personally I want to see Heart 4 Heart grow and help as many kids as we possibly can.

Hey! My name's Michele and I am currently pursuing a Major in Anatomy and Cell Biology with a Minor in International Development! I grew up in beautiful North Vancouver, BC but I have happily indulged myself in Montreal's vibrant culture and ever-engaging community for the past three years of my studies. Joining the Heart 4 Heart family here at McGill has been a truly rewarding experience. Our team's dedication towards the cause has generated such wonderful outcomes and happy beginnings for children we are lucky to help. On top of that, we simply have a great time doing what we do! Any contribution you make through donations or word of mouth brings us one step forward to making that a reality :)

Hey! I'm Derek, a U2 Anatomy and Cell Biology student at McGill. Growing up, I was never one to know exactly what my passions were. Eventually, by some stroke of luck, I ended up working with children of all ages - both through aquatics and healthcare. I found my passion. Helping and supporting children is one of the greatest feelings in the world and Heart 4 Heart is an incredible organization that is doing just that. Working with a child at a time, our efforts will make differences in each child's life and we hope that you'll join us in doing so!

MCGILL

Hello! My name is Sean and I come from Ottawa, Ontario. I am currently on the road to obtaining my B. Sc. at McGill University with a major in Pharmacology and a minor in Social Studies of Medicine. Since a young age, I’ve wanted to help others. Whether it was the 6-year old me giving away free Pokemon cards at the daycare or the 18-year old me volunteering at local hospitals in Ottawa and Montreal, one thing is certain: “giving” is the gift that keeps on giving. A small sacrifice from you can go a long way to making someone else’s day! As such, I am excited to work with the Heart 4 Heart team - where we all share the goal of brightening up a child’s day, for the rest of their life.

Emily Nham

QUEEN'S

Hello everyone! My name is Emily Nham and I have had the honour to be the Co-Founder and President of Heart 4 Heart Queen’s University chapter over the past 4 years. I am in my final year of my undergraduate studies and couldn’t be more excited to finish as a Life Sciences major with a Bachelor’s of Science degree. Although I will no longer be the President of Heart 4 Heart this upcoming term, I am delighted to know that I have created the opportunity for other students to excel in a leadership role and to make a difference in the Queen’s and Kingston community. I am extremely proud of the Queen’s executive committee and the contributions they have made in order to ensure the success of the club and the charity as a whole. Without them, the Heart 4 Heart Queen’s chapter would not be where it is today. I can not wait to see the continued growth and success of this club in years to come as we continue to raise funds and awareness for children around the world with this crippling condition.

Hi, my name is Sam Middleton, and I’m a first year ArtSci student at Queen’s. I’m planning on doing a major in philosophy with a minor in psychology, before applying to law school. My other interests include travel and working in developing countries, so next summer I’ll be interning in an aid capacity throughout Ghana, before setting off on a trip through Zambia, Namibia, Botswana, and South Africa. Here at Queen’s, I’m a member of 6 executive committees, and I’m passionate about making a difference by working through these organizations. This is my first year with Heart 4 Heart, but I’ve already been able to see how a dedicated group of individuals working as a team with singular focus and drive is able to create change and improve the lives of those affected by congenital heart disease. While fortunate enough to live in a nation where congenital heart disease is a far less prevalent issue than elsewhere, through Heart 4 Heart I’ve been able to see the impact that it can have on individuals and families alike, and it truly is an issue that deserves our attention and effort. Working with Heart 4 Heart, I know that we can make a real difference, and I look forward to being a part of this group’s continuing efforts to combat such an important issue.

Caroline Aitken

WESTERN

Hi! My name is Caroline Aitken. I currently study Mechatronics Systems Engineering at Western University, but I am originally from Hamilton, Ontario. With a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering - and possibly a Masters in Biomedical Engineering - I hope to imagine, design, and test equipment for those in medical need. Due to a heavy influence from my own family’s experiences with childhood illness, I can personally appreciate and understand the effects of what assistance from the government can do to assist a family in affording treatment for that disease. I am lucky that my family has been in a financial situation to cover the rest of the costs; however, this is often not the case. This is where foundations like Heart 4 Heart become incredibly important. The donations of generous people can literally save the lives of children who would otherwise never have a chance. I am excited to be a part of Heart 4 Heart London and have a positive impact on the lives of families in need.

Hey, my name is Steven Wu and I’m from Markham Ontario. I’m a fourth year History Major in the Concurrent Education program here at Queen’s! I’m a big fan of my cat (Chance), rapping, reading and all things outdoors. I’m hoping to travel to Korea and teach English after I graduate from Queen’s. This is my third year as the volunteer director and am excited to be a part of a selfless initiative and equally as selfless team. I initially got involved with Queen’s Heart 4 Heart because I wanted to be able to positively impact someone’s life who is otherwise unable to fund their medical expenses. My experience in the club has been nothing but eye-opening and the people that I’ve worked with made me realize that there are people out there that want to help.

Since coming to Queen’s University I have grown to love Kingston and the close-knit community of passionate and motivated students living here. When I’m not studying, I’m volunteering on campus, catching up with friends, or out on Lake Ontario with the rowing team. I am passionate about accessible and affordable healthcare and it is my dream to pursue a career in medicine after graduation. Through their work providing life-saving surgeries, Heart 4 Heart stood out to me as an organization that has incredible direct impact on children’s lives and their families. I look forward to working with this group of talented and driven individuals and seeing the difference our events and fundraisers will make for children suffering from congenital heart disease.

Hi, my name is Boris Kan and I am currently a 2nd year Life Science major at Queen’s University. I plan on pursuing a career in paediatrics or pharmacy because I want to have an impact on other people’s lives one day. Some of my most memorable experiences was working as a camp counselor and volunteering at Toronto East General Hospital. I am from Richmond Hill, Ontario and some of my hobbies are playing basketball, watching TV shows (Friends), and playing cover songs on the piano. This is my second year with Heart 4 Heart and I have seen some amazing things happen that have really helped this club thrive in reaching their goals. That feeling when we reached enough funds to pay for a child’s heart surgery is truly amazing. I believe that Heart 4 Heart will continue to make a major impact on the lives of children in developing countries and I am excited to be a part of the next chapters that are ahead of us.

WESTERN

Hey there! I am Mohamed Elazabawy. I am currently enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering program at Western University, in London, Ontario. I am Egyptian, was born and spent most of my time in Saudi Arabia, and moved to Canada in 2012. Being exposed to many different cultures over the years, I have developed an interest in always learning about new ones. I have got three main passions: sports (soccer!), being involved, and aviation. Up until 2011, when my niece was born, I was the youngest in the family, and I never really had to deal with children. However, throughout the past three years, my niece and I spent a lot of time together, playing games, telling each other about our day, learning all the things that happen in 3 year old’s day, and just having a lot of fun. I realized that everything possible should be done to allow children to live through these kinds of moments with their family. For this reason, when I had the chance to join Heart 4 Heart, I did not hesitate to do so.

Hey there! My name is Shoaeb Salaria and I am ecstatic to be part of a heart-warming club like this! I am originally from Mississauga, Ontario and I am currently studying engineering at the University of Western Ontario. I also plan doing a dual degree at the Richard Ivey business school here at Western. Some of my hobbies include wrestling, cross country, soccer, and my ultimate favourite, Ice hockey! I am also a member of ISV volunteers, and will be working as a volunteer in New Zealand to protect and rehabilitate some of the most beautiful landscapes on Earth, conserve rare and endangered species by providing food, shelter, and enhancing natural habitats! Speaking of travelling, I am an avid traveller. I enjoy exploring different regions of the world and comparing the culture and everything else to where I live. These places include, South Africa, UK, California, and many more! Furthermore, have a keen interest in human biology. I hope to be a Biomedical Engineer one day! I feel this club will provide a good insight into applications of this field, which is a good reason for why I joined the team! I look forward to meeting like-minded people that have the same goal of helping kids in need, and I would love nothing more than to help out kids with this unfortunate birth defect while being surrounded by people with high enthusiasm and great positivity!

Tanner Martin

Paul Singh

WINDSOR

Hey everyone! My name is Paul Singh and I’m currently in my third year studying Biology at the University of Windsor. Some of the things that I enjoy doing are: soccer, badminton and playing cards. When I visited India years ago, I was shocked to see so many unfortunate people who couldn’t pay for their medical treatments. From that point, I was driven to make a significant impact. I plan on pursuing dentistry and hopefully coming back to India and other countries in need of care. I’m excited to join Windsor’s first Heart 4 Heart team as an executive and bringing a change.

Amanda Fernandes

ALBERTA

Hi! I am currently in my second year of my Bachelor of Sciences degree at the UofA. I joined the Heart 4 Heart club as in the future, I would like to pursue a career in the health industry as I am passionate about providing assistance to others who are less fortunate than I am. Through my past experience, helping those in deprived communities has allowed me to see that support is needed to bring about change as these are the countries whose government does not have the necessary resources to provide proper healthcare to those who need it. Thus, even providing the smallest contribution to this cause can make a difference in an individual's and their family's lives. A few of my hobbies include playing the piano and crocheting. During my spare time, I volunteer at the Stollery Children’s Hospital and the Misericordia Community Hospital, and work as a swimming instructor.

Vishnu Rengan

ALBERTA

QUEEN'S

Hi! My name is Vishnu Rengan and I am currently in my fourth year studying Electrical Engineering at the University of Alberta. I was born in the UK to immigrant parents from India and grew up in Canada. Growing up, I often visited India, and seeing children unable to afford basic healthcare motivated me to join Heart 4 Heart University of Alberta.

Brynn Paisley

Hi, my name is Brynn Paisley and I am a third year Biology major/ Psychology minor at Queen’s University. I am from Oakville, Ontario but I am now happy to call Kingston and the Queen’s community my home! Some of my pastimes include running, sailing, skiing, watching Netflix, and yoga. This is my second year being involved with Heart 4 Heart at Queen’s and I am excited to be a part of the marketing team for the 2017-2018 school year, promoting our events and our overall cause. I became interested in joining Heart 4 Heart because of my passions for public health and advocating for children. Being able to help support children around the world who do not have convenient access to health care is very important to me and is something that I believe we need to raise more awareness about!

Tina Ranjbar

QUEEN'S

Hi, my name is Tina Ranjbar and I am from Toronto Ontario. I am currently a third year biology major at Queen’s University. This is my first year as the Volunteer Director for Heart 4 Heart and it already has been a very rewarding experience for me. A strong passion of mine is travelling to different areas of the world and experiencing different cultures. I love working with children, whether it be through babysitting or a camp counselling. Heart 4 Heart has interested and allowed me to bring my strong passion for volunteering to this role and to make a big impact by providing a child with a life changing surgery.  I look forward to working with Heart 4 Heart and people who have the same goal of helping kids in need while being surrounded with lots of positivity.

Isaac Seifarth

WINDSOR

Hi there! My name is Isaac Seifarth and I am finishing off my 3rd year in General Science at the University of Windsor. I plan on becoming a chiropractor and will pursue this next year at CMCC in Toronto! When away from school, you can find me playing intramural sports (i.e. European handball, Volleyball), baking at the Ronald McDonald House at Windsor Regional Hospital, working as a lifeguard or off hitting the ski slopes! Having worked as a lifeguard for the City of Windsor for the past 4 years, my aim to advocate for struggling kids has only grown. Even the little joys in life like swimming can be a powerful tool to uplift attitudes and make a real difference, even if just for a short time. These reasons contribute to why I believe being an executive member of Heart 4 Heart will be so rewarding, both for my team and the fortunate recipients! To be surrounded by a group so enthusiastic and goal oriented is invaluable and encourages me to be as strong of a H4H advocate as I can be!

Hi I’m Vanessa O’Connor. Now with only two years left in my college career, it is unbelievable how fast time flies and where life has taken me. Coming back from a semester abroad in London, I have been eager to rejoin Heart4Heart, which raises money and brings awareness, yet to provide surgery to kids with congenital heart disease. Another non-profit I am a part of is She’s the First, which fundraises and brings awareness about girl’s education in impoverished countries. Another organization I have been a part of for a while is The Studio is yet another on-campus activity that I have worked for since my freshman year and this involvement lets students produce, edit, and market their own Hollywood films. This semester I also will be teaching media literacy to High School students and older adults through Media Club, while also balancing being a member of a few professional organizations, cooking with the culinary club, or explore everything Ithaca has to offer!
