President

Hello, I’m Ted! I’m an undergraduate student currently working on an honours thesis in Dalhousie’s Biology department. As a previous resident of London, Ontario, I became acquainted with Heart4Heart after hearing about the selfless efforts of the Western Chapter. Upon investigating H4H further and learning of the 44 life-changing surgeries it has funded, I knew the organisation would make for a valuable addition to the Dalhousie community. As a result, I decided to take on the responsibility of founding and being the President of the Dalhousie Chapter. In my free time I like playing chess, running and helping others- which I look forward to doing alongside my peers at Dalhousie, those around the country, and this extraordinary organisation.

Vice President

Hey! I’m Makaila Koshurba, and I’m a fourth-year Neuroscience & Health Studies student at Dal. Outside of H4H, you can probably find me lifeguarding at the local pool, volunteering at the hospital, hiking, camping, or hanging out with friends. I first heard about H4H through one of my friends, and I couldn’t wait to get involved. Making a positive impact in the lives of others is something I aspire to do every day, and this provides me with an opportunity to extend my reach even further to children with CHD. I’m so grateful to have this opportunity and can’t wait to see what it brings!

VP Fundraising

Hello! My name is Loukman and I am a fourth-year science student at Dalhousie University who is extensively involved in the community. I am currently completing my bachelor’s degree in Medical Sciences with a minor in French and hope to pursue a career in healthcare. I am the co-founder of Here For You, a non-profit organization that aims to integrate newcomers into the Halifax community. I am also the founder and current president of the Dalhousie Pre-Dental Society, which helps its members become competitive dental school applicants through educational opportunities, community service and exposure to the dental profession. In addition, I am a member of the National Youth Advisory Committee at CAMH — which raises much-needed awareness about mental health across Canada. Finally, in my free time, I volunteer extensively with local hospitals specializing in patients with dementia, Alzheimer’s and depression.

VP Finance

Hello! My name is Alex Wetmore and I am a second-year undergraduate student at Dalhousie University. When I'm not in school, I’m working for an accounting firm to build practical experience in my field of study. It has always been important to me that I find ways to give back to those in need, and Heart4Heart is a great opportunity to do just that! I look forward to the opportunity to improve the lives of those individuals supported by H4H and hope my efforts can bring some positive change to the world.

Hello! My name is Alexandre Dionne, and I’m currently finishing up my undergraduate degree in Biology at Dalhousie University. Born and raised in Windsor, Ontario, I chose to attend Dalhousie because I am passionate about Marine Biology, and Halifax offers no shortage of opportunities to admire a variety of breathtaking aquatic species. Having lost my grandfather to complications arising from Congenital Heart Disease in my youth, I’ve always been looking for ways that I can make a difference and help reduce the global prevalence of CHD. When I stumbled across the Heart4Heart charity thanks to a classmate of mine, I felt immediately compelled to join. I was fortunate enough to grow up in an area where early CHD treatment is available, but many other children in developing countries don’t have that luxury. I believe that every child deserves the chance to live a full and healthy life, and can’t wait to deepen my involvement with the organisation.

VP Events

Hi! My name is Lasindu Abeywardene and I am currently a fourth year Neuroscience student at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I enjoy keeping myself active through sports like basketball, soccer and running. The opportunity to live a healthy, happy life is something we take for granted, and those who may not have the same opportunities might need the initial boost towards that life. Heart4Heart brings people together with similar goals in mind to help those less fortunate and I am excited to make an impact with this charity.

VP Communications

Hi there! My name is Yuyan Bao and I am currently enrolled in my third year at Dalhousie University in the Kinesiology program. Some of my hobbies include video games, listening to music, and playing tennis. My interest in tennis has led me to be a part of the Dalhousie Tennis team. I was originally intrigued by the opportunity of joining Heart4Heart by a classmate of mine. Seeing his involvement in this great charity which raises money and awareness for Congenital Heart Disease made me realize that I could make a real difference for kids who are less fortunate.

Treasurer

Hello there! My name is Daniel Gurman and I’m a fourth-year Neuroscience Major with honours, who is currently studying at Dalhousie University. In my free time, I like to watch movies, try new foods, travel, and spend time outdoors. I also produce electronic music and I always thought of my art as a way to give back to a world that has given me so much. When I heard about Heart4Heart and how I could give back to the community by helping kids with a Congenital Heart Disease, I saw it to be an excellent opportunity to continue giving back. I’m excited to make a difference through my work with H4H!
